The science of Teazl

What science is Teazl based on to ensure learning sticks?

Teazl is based on the latest techniques in education, leveraging psychology and neuroscience. We leverage the MAGESSS model, derived from the Neuroleadership Institute, two studies of the most up-to-date research in learning conducted by researchers at four different universities around the world.

How do we do it?

Meta-Learning: Understanding learning – teaching people how they learn (you may be surprised!).

We focus on attention: giving learners one screen, with a single task to work on. We also look at opportunities to incorporate deadlines and pressure with a built-in timer.

To leverage generation of ideas: we give learners opportunities to connect new memories to existing memories, by giving them the opportunity to actively notice and learn based on their current experience. A notebook and camera built into the course is how we give learners the opportunity to do this.

Using emotion, especially positive emotion, is another essential technique. Giving course builder the opportunity to design the course with positive messaging, whether it’s through colour design, images, video or audio is how we achieve this.

Spacing is optimal for retention – learning, and reinforcing that learning over time. With flexible screens which can reinforce messages over the course, or even building follow up courses to cement ideas, the builder gives course creators the ability to do space their content.

Teazl can be used socially to reinforce learning. Whether it’s creating group projects for active learning (leveraging the image or text-based instructions with a timer) of the fact that a course can be released to a cohort at the same time to facilitate group discussions, social and group learning is important for adults to learn.

Self-direction means that learners can choose their path, based on how they learn. Teazl gives course builders the ability to design different tracks of content, so learners can choose the path which best suits their needs.
